KMU Ranks 1st among Private Universities in Japan in the THE Asia University Rankings 2023
On Thursday, June 22, the British higher education magazine Times Higher Education (THE) published the THE Asia University Rankings 2023, in which KMU ranked 164th. In Japan, KMU ranked 12th among national, public, and private universities, and first among private universities.
This ranking is the Asian version of the global ranking of universities published annually. It uses the total score in five fields: educational power (teaching), research performance, research impact (citations), international outlook, and income from industry to measure the overall strength of universities. Compared to other rankings, it is characterized by an evaluation that emphasizes research performance and teaching. Due to this, the relative ranking differs partially from the World University Rankings. Among the performance indicators in the 2023 rankings, the university received a particularly high evaluation for “number of faculty members per student” and “research impact (citations).”
*The weight of the indicator “teaching” was 30% and 25% in the world ranking and the Asia ranking, respectively. The weight of the indicator “income from industry” was 2.5% and 7.5% in the world ranking and the Asia ranking, respectively.
