San Camillo IRCCS Hospital, located on Lido Island in Venice, is a research hospital renowned for its advanced neurorehabilitation. Tiziano Salvadori, M.D., Medical Director and Head of the Neurorehabilitation Department at San Camillo IRCCS Hospital in Venice Lido, Maurizio Agnoletto, M.D., Health Medical Superintendent, and Davide Franceschini, Ph.D., Clinical Pharmacist, along with four additional researchers visited Kansai Medical University (KMU) in Hirakata, Osaka, Japan, from October 8 to 10. Their mission was to explore innovative approaches in biomedical and neurorehabilitation research collaboration. Representing our university, President Tatsuo Kinashi, Director of the Center for Global Engagement Koichi Tomoda, Director of KMU Hospital Tadashi Matsuda, Distinguished Professor appointed by the University President Giuseppe Pezzotti, and Director of Education at the Graduate School of Medicine Professor Hirofumi Hitomi attended the event.
President Kinashi and Director Matsuda provided an overview of KMU’s academic and clinical activities. Professor Davide Franceschini and Principal Investigator Dr. Pawel Kiper from the Healthcare Innovation Technology Lab presented cutting-edge research on neurorehabilitation and biomedicine at San Camillo IRCCS Hospital. Professors Hirofumi Hitomi and Kimitaka Hase from the Department of Rehabilitation, Yusuke Yakushiji and Makio Takahashi from the Department of Neurology, Rumi Tanemura from the Department of Occupational Therapy of the Faculty of Rehabilitation, and Yuko Ishizaki from the Department of Pediatrics also presented their research topics, highlighting potential collaborations in regenerative medicine, neurological disorders, occupational rehabilitation, and medical devices. Professor Flavio Rizzolio from the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice also participated in the meeting, providing an overview of the institute’s academic fields.
Attendees from San Camillo Hospital, Ca’ Foscari University, and KMU discussed various topics in detail, including collaboration themes, double-degree programs, and student exchanges in basic and clinical medicine, laying the groundwork for future initiatives in accordance with the MOU. The delegates also toured the Photoimmunotherapy laboratory, core research facilities, medical simulation center, and KMU Hospital. Marco Principe, the Consul General of Italy in Osaka, and Dr. Gianluigi Serianni (CNR), the new science attaché at the Embassy of Italy, also joined the tour.
