Kansai Medical University Educational Corporation signed an academic exchange agreement with Politecnico di Torino (Italy) on Saturday, April 1.
Politecnico di Torino is Italy’s first and oldest technical university, and is one of the top universities not only in Italy but also in the world. The research activities between Dr. Giuseppe Pezzotti, a visiting professor at Politecnico di Torino, and Professor OKUMA Kazu at KMU’s Department of Microbiology have led us to start joint research from an international perspective.
In addition, Politecnico di Torino has established Politecnico di Torino Japan Hub in Kyoto, which is used for research with universities and exchanges with companies in Japan. On Tuesday, July 11, opening ceremonies were held at the said site (Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City) and the Question Building (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City). During the ceremony at the Question Building, an agreement signing ceremony was held between President KINASHI Tatsuo and TOMODA Koichi, Director of the Center for Global Engagement, from KMU, and President Guido Saracco and Vice President David Chiaramonti from Politecnico di Torino.
In the future, medical-engineering collaboration will attract attention not only in the biomechanics field but also in the bioscience field related to medical care. It is hoped that new projects unlike any other in Japan will allow both universities to build an organic relationship and contribute to the development of new science and technology.
Based on this agreement, both universities will foster and promote research seeds through medical-engineering collaboration in the global field, and proceed with discussions to build a unique research program and establish a double degree program that will allow students to earn a doctorate in medicine and engineering at the same time in the graduate school’s doctoral program.
